March 8th, 2022

Montreal, March 8, 2022 –The Sommets du cinéma d'animation are pleased to unveil their 2022 official poster, signed by none other than the cartoonist and animation filmmaker, Diane Obomsawin!

"We need good humor, joyful moments and laughter amongst friends during these, shall we say, difficult days. Diane Obomsawin has understood this desire by creating a visual echoing classic cartoons and their hilarious characters. A multi-talented artist, Diane Obomsawin has given us a wonderful surprise by setting the table for the next Sommets to be held under the banner of joy and laughter," says the festival's artistic director, Marco de Blois.

Diane Obomsawin, alias Obom, is a cartoonist and animation filmmaker living in Montreal. She publishes her comics with the poetry publisher L'Oie de Cravan and in English with Drawn & Quarterly. She has directed several animated films as an independent filmmaker and seven auteur works in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada. Presented in various festivals in Quebec, Canada and internationally, her animations have earned her prestigious awards: the Grand Prize at the Ottawa International Animation Film Festival in 2017, the Audience Award at the Alternativa Film Festival in Barcelona in 2017, the Silver Pegasus at Animator in Poland in 2013... Her work has also been the subject of retrospectives: at the FIFA in 2008 and at the Cinémathèque québécoise in 2016. Over the years, Diane Obomsawin has created her own style of storytelling, full of humor, humanity and gravity, which frequently incorporates autobiographical elements. Since 2012, she has also approached installation, which allows her to anchor her myths and dreamlike visions in time and space in a different way.

The 20th Sommets du cinéma d'animation will take place from May 10 to 15, 2022.

The festival is produced by the Cinémathèque québécoise.
