Death by Death
Dark, absurd, provocative, biting, anarchic: these are just some of the terms that best define the unique brand of humour that has flourished in Belgian cinema, especially in Wallonia, over the last few decades. While Belgian comedy has many facets, ranging from ferocity to self-deprecation, it always has a knack for pressing where it hurts while daring to laugh about it, painting hard-hitting social portraits, and putting our laborious lives into perspective.
In the presence of the filmmaker, Xavier Seron
Michel Pneud is a bored and indecisive forty-something who divides his time between his job in an household appliance store, his girlfriend and his ever-present mother. Faced with his mother's incurable illness, he begins, like the hypochondriac he is, to develop symptoms of his own. And he begins to sink into anguish, while she decides not to deny herself anything for the rest of her life. Filmed in magnificent black and white, this is a delightful black comedy with something for everyone.
