Synopsis

Kairouan in Tunisia, shortly after the Arab Spring. Hedi is a sensible and reserved young man who is passionate about drawing. He works as a salesman and dislikes his job. Although his country is undergoing change, he still submits to social conventions and lets his family make decisions for him. While his mother actively prepares his wedding, Hedi is sent by his boss to Mahdia, a coastal town, in the search of new clients. Hedi encounters Rim there. Hedi is attracted to this independent woman, who is a hostess in a local hotel. For the first time in his life, he is tempted to take control of his own life.

Mohamed Ben Attia

Mohamed Ben Attia is a Tunisian director and screenwriter who graduated from the Institut des Hautes Etudes Commerciales of Carthage in 1998. He then planned a film career and tried to enter La Femis in Paris, which he was denied after the third and final round of selections. A few years later, Ben Attia obtained a diploma in audiovisual communication from the University of Valenciennes. Trained at the Sud Écriture writing workshop in Tunis, he began writing and directing several short fiction films, starting with Romanticism: two tablets morning and evening in 2005 and directed in 2006, Like the others (Kif Lokhrin), his second short film. After Mouja was reveal at the Carthage Film Festival (2010) and selected at CinemAfrica (2011) in Stockholm, he directed Loi 76 (2011), his fourth short film, then Selma (2013). He moved on to feature films in 2016 with Hedi, a wind of freedom produced and co-produced by the Dardenne brothers (Les Films du Fleuve) and Nadim Cheikhrouha (Tanit Films), convinced by his last short film. In 2018, he participated in the Cannes Film Festival where his film Mon cher enfant was screened at the Quizaine des réalisateurs.
