Living Together
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.

In a series of captivating encounters, several young people try to find the ideal roommate, that rare gem with whom they can share their space, and their values. A complex and engaging picture of a generation accustomed to playing all their identity cards, Living Together maps a mosaic of cultures and ideas, with explorations of community, individualism and the right to housing in constant interplay.
Halima Elkhatabi
Halima Elkhatabi began her career as a documentary filmmaker and writer after studying at Montreal’s Institut national de l’image et du son (L'inis), where she was awarded an excellence scholarship. Her early works include the short film Demain peut-être (2009), which screened at Visions du Réel, and the medium-length La tête contre le mur (2010), which earned a special mention for the Pierre-et-Yolande-Perrault Prize at the Rendez-vous Québec Cinéma. In 2011, she was one of the co-directors of the NFB-produced collaborative documentary St-Henri, the 26th of August. In 2009, she wrote her first short fiction film, La barricade, which won Best Quebec Short Film at Fantasia and Best Short Fiction Film at the Carrousel international du film de Rimouski. In 2015, her first fiction short as a director, Nina, was shown in official competition at TIFF, making that festival’s Canada’s Top Ten list, and was a Coups de cœur selection in the Cannes Short Film Corner. Halima has worked on audio documentaries since 2019, authoring podcasts including La route du bled, Chloé et Abdi, Songe d’une nuit d’hiver and La route de l’Eldorado for Arte Radio, France Culture and Radio-Canada OHdio. Living Together (2024) is her debut feature-length documentary.
