Waiting for Casimir
The mission of the Centre d'art et essai de la Cinémathèque québécoise (CAECQ) is to primary program Quebec-made documentaries and independent fiction, as well as international documentaries, animated and foreign films, while encouraging opportunities for meetings between the public and the artists. Its programming is presented in conjunction with the Cinémathèque québécoise’s under the label New releases.
The December 6, 7 & 10 screenings will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker
In a cozy house in the heart of a village, men and women struggling with their limits live wrapped up in a well-ordered routine. Between the wooden slats of the interior walls, the outside life creeps in, like a parallel universe observed from afar by the residents.
Christian Mathieu Fournier
A native of Quebec City, Christian Mathieu Fournier first studied film before becoming a Director of Photography in Montreal. He then turned to directing, which allowed him to explore the relationship between people and the land. Driven by a real desire to establish a relationship of trust prior to filming, he invests himself in the human relationship with his characters and their truth. His films have been selected in numerous festivals and have earned him several awards in Quebec and abroad. In this latest experimental film, Waiting for Casimir (2024), he draws freely on Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot and the pictorial work of Edward Hopper.
