Cinéall est dans la sauce!
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary Phénomena festival, which has long championed the diverse practices of Deaf artists, we are presenting two film programs. For the very first time within our walls, these programs highlight the unique contribution of Deaf filmmakers to the art of moving images.
Cinéall celebrates its 25th year as the very first video production house for deaf sign language (LSQ) speakers.
Come and meet the team over a drink before the screenings!
Cinéall was founded in 1999 by Sylvain Gélinas, a director, screenwriter and producer with some fifteen productions to his credit. Cinéall is the first and only deaf film and video production company in Quebec and Canada. In its early days, numerous accessibility obstacles in the community meant that its primary mission was to make “the inaccessible accessible”, as Cinéall’s slogan puts it. Alongside video production and directing, Cinéall also offers accessibility consulting and training services, as well as French-LSQ and English-ASL adaptation and translation. Cineall has produced and collaborated on over thirty short and feature-length films, many of which have been selected for awards, including the experimental short Bravo!, Kylvan, le pup sourd and, more recently, Passagère. Today, with the emergence of new deaf businesses and greater accessibility than 25 years ago, Cinéall is focusing more on video production and direction.
